PostSubject: SOOIEPALOOZA 2010   SOOIEPALOOZA 2010 Icon_minitime4th November 2009, 3:39 pm

The time is getting away quickly. We are less than 90 days from the largest Warhammer tournament in Arkansas. Already, we have many players fully registered, and many more that are pre-registered. There are still slots available.

For those not familiar with Sooiepalooza, it is a 2 day event, 5 games of Warhammer Fantasy Battle. This year the points limit has been increased to 2500, yet the time limits have remained the same at 2 1/2 hours for a game. There are 3 games on Saturday, and 2 more games on Sunday. We host the event at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Fayetteville, Ar. If you come in from out of town, the hotel does give discount rooms for the event.

This year marks the 8th Sooiepalooza, and plans to be better than ever. We have at least 3 new tables for the event, 5 new scenarios, at least 30 returning players, and at least 5 new players, and that's 90 days out! There will be players from all over the world at the event, some even from Texas!

Games Workshop has made the event a Qualifier for the 2011 Las Vegas Grand Tournament, which means that the top 2 finishers in OVERALL will get FREE hotel, FREE meals, FREE entry fee into the June 2011 Las Vegas Grand Tournament. Add to that over $500 in prizes to be awarded at the event, and you can see why this event is a premier event in the USA!

If you are interested, you can contact Dennis at

479-263-3036

Or you can visit the web page at

www.sooiehammer.com

Spectators are welcome. Hope to see many of you there.

Good to see some representation from the HOW in Sooie this year. If more are interested, there are still a few spots open. I wonder if any of the crew from CHG would be interested in entering?

Wouldn't mind playing, but I only have 2k in chaos warriors. I will run a list tonight and see what I would have to include to finish it up to 2500.

What is the actual date for the sooie?

Thanks, Brent. Will and I are supposed to play on Sunday... I haven't played any Fantasy in almost 7 years. If I played in sooie, I would probably have 2-3 games under my belt, maybe. Smile

We now have 50 players registered for Sooiepalooza. Just this week, the White Dwarf hit us with an ad, and for a change, it was correct, phone number, website, e mail, dates, price, and everything! That's a first!

Our local contingent is well represented, but there is room for more. With the WD ad, we should start seeing some action from foreign shores quickly. If you want a spot at the only 2 day tournament of any kind of Warhammer stuff in Arkansas, then you need to contact us PRONTO!

As of today, we have 55 entered, and we have a solid ringer army. This means that we can take 1 more player, and that maxes out the tournament.

Of the 55 entries, we have 44 that have paid, and the other 11 have made arrangements. This means that on game day, we will have a full house. Way to go NWA!!! GW kicked in $500 worth of new terrain for the event, and I finished painting it yesterday. Ash and B played on some of it today.

The army breakdown is quite diverse. here it is

Warriors of Chaos 8
Orcs & Goblins 6
Dwarfs 5
Skaven 5
Demons of Chaos 5
Vampire Counts 4
Empire 3
Ogres 3
Wood Elves 3
Tomb Kings 2
Lizardmen 2
Dark Elves 2
Beasts of Chaos 1
Bretonnia 1
High Elves 1
Undeclared 4
Ringer Ogres 1

As I said, we have room for 1 more player. The tournament is in 43 days. We have the Burns gamer monthly in attendance, and we will be the feature article in the February issue. There will also be a video report on his website, and it will be of the championship game. Every former champion will be in attendance. There are 13 local players, and that represents NWA very well.

When we fill all the slots, there will be a waiting list started. If you want to play, you need to act quickly.

Sooiepalooza 2010 is now full. If you still want to play, you will need to get on the alternate list 9Waiting List) and hope that someone drops out.

Every Scenario has been thoroughly playtested, and they all work quite well.

All the scenery is complete, including 10 Games Workshop Realm of Battle game boards. We did get in plenty of flat panels for the tables, and that will make them a bit more Fantasy friendly.

Players are coming up to play at TSE on a daily basis, and most are refining their armies.

Lists are due next Friday, and if turned in by then, no penalties will be assessed. After Friday, Jan 1, there will be penalties.

Thanks to all the staff at TSE club for all their help.

Have a Merry Christmas!

With almost everyone's money in hand, it's time to get on to more important things, like making my life easier. I need army lists. I have almost half of them already, 26, but they are due by Jan 1 to keep from being penalized points.

All right, I got a bit carried away, and I couldn't turn away a couple of players. We have 58 players in the tournament, nit the 56 listed on the GW website. I bumped it up 2 slots.

Mondays are a great day for getting army lists in, and I got 6 more today. There are still about 20 folks out there that need to get their lists in to me ASAP!

I'll be picking up trophies this week, as well as making the BAttle Points Playing Cards.

Tournaments that are this size seem to never be finished until they are finished! - Yogi!

Administratively, we are ready for the tournament. We have all the tables prepared. We did have to make 5 new tables, and while we were at it, we repaired about 10 old ones, making them like new. The terrain is finished, and inventory is being taken on it presently.

There will be 60 players in the event, and right now, we have 61 ready and able players, including Eldar Bob, who will be running our ringer army, the Ogres.

All the scenarios are set, and in place. This year, we will be running 5 actual scenarios. In some past tournaments, we have let game 5 be a plain old pitched battle, but this year, that is not the case. Some of the scenarios are brand new concepts, while some of them are just good old standard scenarios.

There will be a copy or 2 of the Beastman Army Book on site, or so says the Evil Empire. This year's prize packages will be better than ever.

Spectators are welcome to come by, and even encouraged. We realize that we have many new players in the area, and an event of this magnitude is really something to see. Some of the best Warhammer Players in the world will be attending. The armies of many are just too cool to describe with any justice. You need to see them to believe them.

It is a book written by some tournament goers, yes Indy GT tournament goers, but it is not GW's doing. It was a solid attempt to allow the army, and the list is not really bad, but it is not official. If you allow it at tournaments, you are opening up a can of worms that doesn't need to be opened. Now, is it OK to allow a Slayer army that the Indy GT folks wrote? Is it OK to allow any variant list that Indy GT folks write?

It's really a moot point as I don't have a single Dwarf of Chaos model, I was just curious as a collector what your opinion as a TO on it was.

Can of worms? Maybe. I know Sooie lays out fairly clear guidelines of what is acceptable and what it isn't. It seems like you can say "Chaos Dwarfs in, Slayer list out." Or allow all of the Indy Gt lists. To my knowledge none of the Indy lists really dominate the Indy scene, so I don't think any local players would boo hoo about facing them.

Again, just chewing fat.

The real problem in allowing NON GW lists into any event is - What if they win? Then you have all the participants telling the event organizer how broken the army was, and that they favored the player that brought it. Especially bad if the player that brings the variant list and wins is a local player. Then you get the reputation you don't want.

Not to mention that as a GW qualifier it probably would not go over very well to include an army not designed by GW. Again, if you won you couldn't very well take that army to Vegas!
