Any advice on good armies?

I play high elves, so they r out, but this is actually for my dad he is wanting to get an army, so for his birthday i am planning on getting him the army book and one or two sets of normal soldiers for that army(he really likes the beastmen), any suggestions on what army to get him(also anybody know how well beastmen play).

Never mind he chose dark elves(fitting with my high elves) so no need for advice sorry
