best melee army

I really want to start one of these 3: Dark Elves, Lizardmen, or Britanians. Are any of those really good at hand to hand with minimal magic? I played wood elves for a short stint and hated the magic and shooting, so the better hand to hand the better

throw warriors of chaos into that mix also. I was just looking at them

Ogres. lol. I don't even know if they're still a valid army.

I haven't messed with Fantasy for a long time, but I would think that Chaos would be the optimum CC choice.

Edit: You know, if Ogres aren't usable. They were sick at CC.

if you don't mind having some magic and shooting in the army Dark elves are the best but if you want to ignore those phases WoC is a great army.

I really like the armor on the Woc. It looks like the type of thing I would enjoy painting, and their stat lines are pretty beast

Actually, after looking at all the armies, I think Orcs would be really fun to play....anyone play dwarfs and want to split the current box set with me?

If you want to play with Orcs then be prepared to have half or more of you army to sit and squabble on any given turn.

Go back to Warriors of Chaos with Mark of Khorne if you want a good hand to hand army.

Just my opinion.

Orcs are a good army but not one I would choose for your first they have too many problems involving leadership. But if you do decide on orcs try to build a force than minimizes animosity and the effects of fear/terror on you.

I have to be the most indecisive person on the planet. After talking to Chris today and looking at the codex of Orcs, I think I actually am going Warriors of Chaos. But just for good measure, what are the Britanians like??

Best cavalry units in the game; pretty much. Nice flyers with the Pegasus units.

I dunno, as it currently stands, if I was going Cav I'd go Warriors of Chaos (for core Marauder Horsemen and special Chaos Knights, and better magic).

both those armies have models that I really want to paint, so i guess it doesnt really matter haha

I agree but I played a Khorne mortal army because magic is just not my thing in Warhammer. So I gave up magic for the extra dispel dice and the extra attacks.

You pretty much just sold me on chaos with that comment. I hate magic in that game

You no longer get dispel dice for marking units khorne. but there are quite a few items in the WoC that will make magic heavy armies quake in their boots like the black tongue/puppet combo and also things like the collar of khorne that will give a character magic resistance 2

If you hate magic, don't pick up Fantasy.

Seriously.

Magic right now defines the tournament game.

I think ill probally just play it casually, I want to paint some minis mainly. Tournement scene for me right now is strictly 40k
