Hello all,

At-43 models are very cheap right now and I'm considering buying a bunch for conversion into my tau army. I know it's generally frowned upon in tournaments, but seeing that I'm a pretty casual player that shouldn't be an issue. My questions are:

1: Anybody have experience converting these models? Anything I should be aware of?

2: If I plop down an Una Defender Snake as a Hammerhead in a pick-up game are most players gonna complain?

I will expound.

At the moment, I'm thinking of buying Karman K fighters to supplement my Broadsides. ( Space Gorillas with huge guns for the win. ) And a pair of UNA Defender snakes converted with Hammerhead bits for...well Hammerheads. ( I had the idea of doing something like this back when I started my Tau. But didn't want to scratch build them. ) My old Hammerheads will be turned into Devilfish.

Of course, I will strip the paint off of those AT-43 models to fit my army's paint scheme.

I just looked those models up and the gorilla suits should work perfect for Broadsides. I have seen stuff from this company and it is pretty sharp - much better quality than heroclix and stuff like that.

The Snakes should be ok as well as long as they have a similar profile. Putting the actual Hammerhead bits on there will go a long ways to making them look legit.

I personally don't have a problem with this in casual or tournament play as long as I can look at the model and tell what it is supposed to be. With these swaps I think it will be very obvious what they are supposed to be.

Thanks!

I've been looking at the Snake model online and it seems like a good fit. Here is a size comparison posted on DakkaDakka.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/29076-Size%20comparison.html

I'm gonna hack the back off of a Devilfish to mount on the Snake. With the regular turret and engines, it should be about the same length and height of a Hammerhead on a flying stand. ( That should also satisfy the, " It functions like a skimmer with landing gear. " Requirement. )

Got the AT-43 models in the mail today.

Sadly, the Cobras are a tad too smal for the conversion I had in mind and way too big to sub as something else. Kind of a bummer. If I had an extra devilfish to hack up it might be worth a try, but I'm not going to sacrifice a perfectly good model for an iffy project. Maybe I will turn them into looted wagons for my future dread mob themed army.

On a happier note, the Karmen K-fighters seem to be excellent stand-ins for Broadsides. A bit of recoloring and additional missile launchers will make them good to go.

Anyway, back to working on my Necrons.
