HAha. I think you nailed it on the head summing everything up nicely in that post. It was a good point to close it on! Well said on all points therein.

Well, my personal feeling was that the thread should have stayed open. Let's educate the guy and any who follow after him on how to learn how forums work and how to make posts.

That being said, I have counseled Monkeyman on several occasions but I am not a good counselor, it appears.

*shrugs* I can understand how his exuberance causes a lot of people to wince at his posts. On the other hand, as a business owner I have to make a lot of bend-over-backwards allowances for a lot of people. More than I would have thought necessary in the game industry. I was under the impression that I am a business owner selling products and services in the way of providing a place for a lot of people to play a lot of various games.

I am actually a person that a lot of strangers come to tell me their latest RPG story (Mr d20 says: Remember, if they weren't there, they don't care!) about their awesome 20th level mage/5th level sorcerer/18th level rouge/(yes, I said ROUGE)10th level cleric combo. I lose track of the levels sometimes. In my 30 + years of gaming I have never had a character gain as many levels so quickly as the people tell me they do. When I ask how long these characters have been alive (RW time) they tell me: "Oh, a long time. Just over a year". But I have always been the one who likes to GM; I am told I do a decent enough job as a story teller, and I am pretty old and slow so I am usually the last one who raises his hand and says "NOT ME" when someone is asked to run a game in our group.

I also have to listen to awesome deck combos for Magic, of which while I understand the core mechanics, the rest is beyond me. I still have to listen, with apparent interest and knowledge of what the heck they are talking about when they talk about their latest Garruk Green/Blue combo.

Also I have to listen to Andy's talk of how his DA army is going to kick somebody's IG MECH army into the dust because of all the awesome Plasma/LAS/Multi-Melta combos that he has mixed up. Andy is a smart guy, I envy his ability to remember all the combos and rules. With that in mind, I have caught him on one or two rules mix-ups in the two years I have known him. And he has liked one or two house rules I have made. I take pride that he has asked me to GM Deathwatch, Dark Heresy, Rogue Trader, or WH FRP 2E on a night he could play.

What I am rambling about is that sometimes I am not sure how far I can post and not get the thread closed on me. It becomes frustrating to me after a while. I understand how some threads can get thumped into the ground. My attitude is: If you don't want to follow the thread, don't read it. But closing threads because it is felt that the thread has gone on long enough is a little to heavy handed, in my opine.

This is one of the reasons I stopped posting before. I am already intimidated by the great deal of brains that are present in the forums, closing threads is even more intimidating to us folk who are not as able to weave through all the various rules of the various games presented here.

Ok, I apologize if I have stepped too hard on any toes, I am under the infuence of a lot of drugs. I have made more than my share of dumb posts and ideas here in these forums. I'll continue to lurk and post as I feel I can. But making fun of Monkeyman about his inability to take advice is probably a little much. Ban the guy if you will, but don't make a public mockery of him. Or anyone else, for that matter.

Again, just my 2 pennies.

And can I get a Tech Priest to look at my emoticons? Or were they disabled due to my overindulgence of them?

I think everyone is/was equally aggravated, i'm just not sure that post flooding about the behavior a 12 year old kid is really helpful or contributes overall to what the Hogs want to do. Especially when those posts are in the vein of "zomg he a TROLL!" or "Man, I would say something bad about him but his parents spend money!"

That's why I closed the thread. The thread is still there if the "guy wants to become educated." Per his post quoted in the thread I was under the impression he had already read it as well.

My intent was just to head it off before it went any further.

Edit: of note, I didn't close the thread because you posted. I closed it because I felt it had gone on long enough.

I was asking an honest question, not mocking him...If you want to talk about mocking you only have to look as far as Capn posting in anything I do with "blah blah blah doubles tournament"

I don't think anyone said he was being mocked. You asked if he was a troll, called him out to come play you because you didn't believe he was real, and then when people said he was a real person you started posting that you didn't believe him. I just didn't think there was any value to the thread. Keep in mind - he is 12 year old.

Everyone is upset by his behavior and I've complained just as much as anyone. I'm not trying to defend him

If we want to take down the rules and just state we are all free to discuss one another in full cander, by all means, let's do that.

I think I covered why I razzed you so much about the double's tourney in that thread, so I won't hash that back out. If it makes you feel better Blake: I'm sorry I mocked you about the doubles event and I'll never do it again. Promise.

I think it was pretty apparent that when I said I didnt believe them, it was a joke. I posted that part is all caps with the attached phrase I DONT TRUST ANYONE ANYMORE!

Anyway, I'm not torn up about anything said, it was all in jest. You can keep saying whatever to me.

But seriously, go look at who we have in common. It's like 5 people but they are like polar opposites of each other.

I did say something bad about him. I said what needed to be said, which is that he doesn't listen to people's advice about calming down and thinking before he posts. That's some rather harsh criticism that may indeed cost me his business. That's what I'm all about, business.

I saw a bad trend starting on that thread. The kid is only 12, there was no reason to make the comments that I saw made. The comments about his being a troll from 4chan were a little much. I have never surfed 4chan but from what I have heard it isn't something that we should inform a 12 year old boy about. I do have to admit, most kids in the preteens and teens know more about pron than I'll ever want to learn.

While I thought Blake's thread was a little offensive I agree with Blake's comment about the mocking about his doubles tourney. That is was taken as mocking by more than just me shows that the internet is still a bad way to communicate, body language and verbal impressions are lost.

Capn, by closing the thread you have prohibited the ability for any other member here to put forward their ideas and constructive advise to Monkeyman.

I'd like to play a game with you as well if you have free time. I was offensive toward you, but it was unintended. I apologize for what I put in my thread.

Someone should inform his dad of how to block certain websites....QUICK!

Then delete the posts that mentioned the website and warn the poster no to do that again. That's how to avoid the issue.

Yeah. Or I could just try and lock the thread and hope that it's the end of the issue.

But then someone who posted in that thread could make their own post about how they disagreed with me censoring people.

Indeed they could. They could at that. The solution to that is to ban that person from the forums. That is an option open for you as well.
