PostSubject: Slimy Bugs   28th March 2010, 6:25 am

So I am now painting my Tyranid army. I'm going with a slightly modified Leviathan paint scheme.

I haven't painted in at least 4 years, so it's a little rough right now, but I think they're coming out very nicely.

I am using Army Painter's "bleached bone" spray and then painting with GW paints and shading with Army Painter's Quickshade (medium). Don't forget that Army Painter has 3 darkness selections.

I then use a "wet-look" spray lacquer made for model cars and then brush clear dull acrylic paint over the carapaces and weapons. This is giving my bugs a very wet and slimy look on their "skin".

I painted 2 Hormagaunts and 1 Tyranid Warrior as a testbed. While I need to work on my drybrushing technique (and I used too much paint... and too much lacquer... and then too much dullcoat), they have come out nicely. Let me know what you think. They are only going to get better from here. This went better than I had hoped. Now to work on the other 50 or so models in my 850 pt list. haha. /wrists

Note: Picasa hates me, so it has reduced my 5MP quality pictures to about VGA give or take. If you would like to see them in person, I'm usually at CHG. They are actually much better in person than they are in these pics.

Thanks Insomnia, you have once again led me to do something all freaking night.

Very nice! Looking very good. I'm a sucker for any scheme involving bone... especially bone and purple.

Haha. I'm not so much worried about the 'nids having bone as I am another player having bone upon seeing them. Lol

Lol. I'm hard to gross out but you nearly crossed the line there.

So I spent a few hours testing out painting a Termi thanks to insomnia. I haven't put any shader on it yet, but I think it looks good. Much more muted purple. I'm going to take a picture of it when I wake up and have a chance to shade it, etc. I'm afraid I didn't get enough of the base on it though, so i'm going to see what it looks like shaded.

I'm using a few of my "extra" hormies to test out a couple of different paint schemes before I paint them all. I will post pics of them as I get them done. This is gonna take for freakin ever.

Curse you detailed models!!! haha.
