PostSubject: Using non-GW models...   14th July 2011, 3:47 pm

Ok, I have been playing GW games for about two years now. From my 40k Space Marines to my WHFB WoC army I've been using exclusively GW models. I started looking at individual models from diffrent lines and I decided to get some ICs from non-gw sources and I have really liked their look. Another thing caught my eye, I really like the Kings of War Undead line. They look really good plus they are about 1/2 to 1/4 the price of GW models. Now I know I couldnt play in a GW sanctioned tourney with them but if they are WYSIWYG would anyone object to them being used in a friendly game? Is this Warhammer Heresy? Should I really pay $3.00 a model to GW just because they made up rules and a fantasy universe? Thoughts? Has anyone ever used kings of war minis?

My list of armies:

Demons - almost 100% GW (barring 1 AoW mini)
Dwarves - 100% Confrontation
Beastmen - 100% Confrontation

I can confidently say you can use non-GW models. MOST Indy GTs permit or even encourage them, even (Shiloh Slaughter, for instance).

The only tournament that I know of that doesn't allow non-gw models is GW ran tournaments (Skull of Thrones in Vegas or Memphis next year) or tournaments held in GW stores.

Around here at the local small and large tournaments you won't have a problem at all. The only thing to consider is if your opponent can look across the table and tell what the model is supposed to represent from the book.

Mantic is a great company to look at. I know that Captn is building up an Abyssal Dwarf army and Haren recently picked up a whole horde of Mantic Ghouls for a Vampire Counts army.
