Mark and I just got done with a game of this 1960's classic. It is turn based, and played with checker like pieces. It is complete strategy, until you try and pass. Game lasts 30 turns and takes about 2 hours. If you are lucky, you can find it on EBAY for about $50. It was produced between 1962 and 1969. It is by IDEAL toys.

If you like football themed board games you might want to check out Pizza Box Football. Sadly, it looks like support for the game died out after the 2008 expansion, and none of the expansions appear to be in print (they did team cards from 2005 to 2008), but even with just the generic base game it does a pretty good job of capturing the "feel" of football in a beer & pretzels board game.
